American Queen to visit Henderson KY

On Monday, April 30, 2012, the American Queen will be docked on our Henderson KY riverfront (my front yard) . They will be arriving around 10:00 am and departing around 4:00 pm.

The American Queen will return to Henderson KY again on Saturday, May 12, 2012 from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.  Since this is a Saturday this would be a great opportunity to come downtown Henderson KY.

The  Downtown Businesses that are normally closed on Monday (Memories Past & Present, The Gold Mine and The Tea Cafe & Gift Shop) will be open and of course our businesses that are always open on Mondays will be open to welcome our guest. See a list of downtown Henderson KY stores and restaurants.

So make plans to come down to the riverfront and view the beautiful riverboat, and make your way into our stores and restaurants! Enjoy the day in Downtown Henderson.

Why Federal Bicycle Funding Matters

Henderson KY could be a bicycle friendly community.  We are already making great strides in creating bicycling and walking trails in our community.  We have a lot of work to do however.

Talk recently includes extending our current bicycling and walking path from Kimsey Lane to join the Balmoral Subdivision.

For a list of Bicycle Paths in Henderson KY see our list of routes on Henderson County Tourist Commission website.

MapMyRide.com maintains another great list of bicycling opportunities in Henderson KY.

Fall Bike to Work Day-September 30

Join me an others that bicycle to work daily.

Friday, September 30, 2011 as we bicycle instead of driving a gas powered vehicle to work if you can.  If you can’t on that day commit to taking a bicycle ride.

Louisville KY does a great job encouraging this even.  With all the news about bridge closings and traffic headaches in Louisville KY it seems quite fitting that bicycles are the smartest way to get around town.

Read about Louisville Kentucky initiative to get more people committed to bicycling to work.  I”m so proud of my cousin Blake Priest Kenyon who bicycles each day to work in Louisville KY.

Geocaching- Kentucky Boi Travel Bug (TB50B3)

Back in early 2000 I started Geocaching it was like many new technological things and many people had never heard of it back then but now lots of people are enjoying Geocaching.  It is a great sport that involves travel, outdoors, exercise and use of computer/internet.geocache

We hid a Geocache on the property of our family owned bed and breakfast on July 6, 2003.  As of today River’s Railroad Cache has been found 218 times!  The cache is named after my nephew River Priest.  He continues to contribute to the success of the Geocache by checking on it frequently.

We have had a great time watching and talking to the people who find the Geocache. They have taken many pictures of our downtown.  Many people have just came to Henderson KY just to find this geocache.

kentuckyboi-20090228 This is too funny.  Back on November 14, 2002 I was vacationing in the Keys of Florida.  I hid in a very popular Geocache a travel bug called “Kentucky Boi”.  That travel bug along with the Barbie Head attached has traveled over 10,000 and is presently trying to make it back to Kentucky.    You might might be able to view the travel bug here but it might require you to be a member of Geocaching.com.

Henderson KY has several Geocaches.  One that is quite fun to find is very close to the caboose that is located in the back on the new Henderson Welcome center.  The name of that cache is called “Welcome to Henderson”.

Just this week I installed the Geocaching iPhone application.  More on what I think of that later.  So far it looks like another killer application for the iPhone.
