The Barnstormer Dollywood’s Newest Attraction

Posted on April 1, 2011 Written by Nibby Priest

Dollywood kicked off its 2011 season last weekend (March 26 and 27, 2011) with a visit from its namesake icon, Dolly Parton.

The year the park opened in 1986, and I was there.  I remember it vividly it was my last semester of my college career, and I was studying for statistics final.   To say the least with the park opening and Dolly singing that weekend it was hard for me to focus on studying college statistics.  Thank goodness I did pass and graduate.

The diminutive Dolly helped debut the park’s latest ride, Barnstormer. The themed swing ride that uses compressed air to send passengers soaring up to 81 feet and at speeds up to 45 mph on two pendulum arms. Watch the video of Dolly talking about the new ride and see it in action. Dolly did not ride Barnstormer–nor has she ever boarded any of the coasters at her park.  She always says she is scared she might lose something like a fingernail, shoe or some hair!   You have to love my quick-witted musical super star-  Dolly Parton.

Each time I visit Dollywood I have a great time.  There is a something new and excited and just good music, food and fun.   You know Dolly needs the business.  One of her favorite lines is “Y’all buy my music and come to Dollywood-  It takes a lot of money to look this cheap!”

Tell me about your experience visiting Dollywood?

“I just wanted to look like the Town Tramp . . .”

Tonight 60 Minutes did a nice interview with my iconic hero Dolly Parton.

Watch that video below:

Watch CBS Videos Online

I have never seen her tear up on TV.  Notice that she never let her mascara run.  I never have heard the “pig” story either.  That story is somewhat strange, but leave it to Dolly.

What do we have to learn from people like Dolly Parton?

008By the way her funky pink rocker at the Cracker Barrel stores are not selling well.  The Henderson KY Store Still has number 16 of 1350.

This is a picture of me sitting in this rocking chair.  No, I am not going to buy it!

Cracker Barrel Old Country Store is the proud exclusive retailer of Dolly’s latest CD.  The album features 3 new tracks hand-picked by Dolly.  Plus, new photos & artwork.   Cracker Barrel will also have Dolly Rockers.  They are PINK. Dont know if I need one or not, but thinking about it.

Click this icon to go to CMT and register to get tickets to see Dolly’s one and only Broadway show “9 to5”.

I have a Dolly Parton Pinball machine that is driving me crazy in my garage.  I can’t imagine departing with it, but it is very difficult to move.

Do I *really* want/need a Dolly Parton Pink Rocking chair?
